February Goals

Yes, I realize that February is already more than half over, and therefore, this post is rather late.  But, better late than never.  So, January didn’t end up going well, at all.  Well, that’s not totally true, the first two weeks went well, but then I went off the rails in a bad way.  But first, a recap: Here are my goals for 2015:
1)      Become more self-sustaining/make things myself instead of buying them
2)      Run a 10K
3)      Run 480 miles in 2015
4)      Make this blog better
5)      Take good care of myself
6)      Start my own freelance grant writing business

I’m not going to go into all of the gory details about how I failed on all of the steps I had planned to take in January to work towards those goals.  No, instead I am going to move forward.  So basically, Jeff and I didn’t have our Christmas vacation until the last week of January.  We flew out to Philadelphia to visit Jeff’s family on Tuesday, January 27th and returned to Seattle on Tuesday, February 3rd.  With this in mind, we decided to restart our year upon our return home.  Thus, starting anew. So far it’s going well. We both gained a bit of weight over the fall and winter months, and decided to have ourselves a 10 week “Scale Down Challenge.”  Our initial weigh-in was Sunday, February 7th, and our final weigh-in will be April 19th.  Although, I would like to lose a few pounds, my biggest concern is getting back into shape and improving my strength training.  With that said, here are my action items for February.

Goal 1: Make my own deodorant. I had planned to do this, this last weekend, but ran out of time.  I will be putting it back on my To Do list for this coming weekend, and hope to have it done before the month runs out.  I also want to learn one crochet stitch by the end of the month.  Finally, I will continue with my knitting, which, actually has been going well, with two projects currently in the works.

Goal 2: Running has been a problem, but I feel I have found my solution.  I started having a problem with my left leg last month and had to take 3 weeks off.  So, my running is rather sad at the moment, but I believe the issue stems from my hip. Solution: strength training!  I have resolved to focus on building up my strength, especially in my hips, glutes and core.  I will continue to try to run, but I will take it one run at a time, and listen to my body.  If my legs are bothering me I will ease up or take a break.  In the long run I feel this will help me towards my goal.

Goal 3: same as goal 2.

Goal 4: I think right now what I really need to work on is time management.  As a matter of fact, I think I might just write a post on that very subjectJ.  I also need to continue taking pictures.

Goal 5: Last month I set the goal of not drinking until my birthday.  I so totally failed. This month I am trying it again.  I drank on the 1st and 2nd of the month, but I was still on vacation for those days.  I have not had a drink since then, and it has been going well.  I just need to get through the rest of this week and next, and right now I feel that is an achievable goal.  I’m feeling good, I’ve been getting up in the mornings to work out, and I’ve already lost a few pounds which really helps keep me motivated.

Goal 6: I really need to do something here!  I need to start working on my resume.  So my task here is to at least start working on my resume by the end of February.

Overall, February has been going well.  Jeff and I have been eating at home and eating really healthy.  I have been getting up and working out in the mornings.  I haven’t been drinking and I have been sleeping well.  I have been cooking, keeping the house clean, knitting and working on projects.  Plus, the weather has been really nice, which always helps.  I’m feeling great, and I’m feeling positive.

The year thus far:
Got more wonderful produce from our CSA.
