There are four children in my family: three girls and a
boy. Of course, none of us are children
anymore. We’re all well into adulthood
at this point. My two sisters and I have
birthdays in January, essentially a week apart.
Today is my younger sister’s turn to celebrate her day. As we grow older
the novelty of a birthday seems to fade, but I feel we should continue to
celebrate our day anyway. We may no
longer focus on an age milestone as we did when we were children, but we can
certainly look back over the past 12 months and be proud of our accomplishments
and achievements. So today, on my
sister’s day, I would like to celebrate what a wonderful person she has become.
My sister has taken on what to me is the scariest and
hardest thing a person can do: raising children. That’s right, my sister has two, soon to be
three, children. Three other human beings that she is RESPONSIBLE for.
Amazing! And she does it so well. I’m always so amazed at how patient she is
with her sons, and how she takes every opportunity possible to guide and teach
them about life. It takes a strong
person to dedicate one’s life to others.
I am very proud of what she is doing.
Although, my sister and I have taken very different paths in
our lives, I have been inspired by her in many of my choices. She is a “can do” kind of person. Facing challenges head on. She was my inspiration to first start
running. Whenever I am visiting my
family, my sister and I always try to get in at least one run together. She ran with me in my first 5K, and while I
was still living in the Mid-West, we had a tradition of running the Run for
Beef & Eggs 5K in our hometown every July.
She also focuses on eating healthy and encourages me to do the same.
I look to both of my sisters, and see the things that they
have done and accomplished, and draw strength and encouragement from their hard
work and determination. So, please, join
me in wishing my little sister a very happy birthday!
Agreed! Happy Birthday, Julia. Wonderfully written Rachel.
