Why I Started a Blog Part 1

Home made ketchup!

pumpkins that came in our CSA!

After finishing grad school this spring, I sudden found myself with a large amount of free time.  For the first time in six years I could come home from work and do as I pleased instead of homework or internship stuff.  How did I handle this new found freedom?  Poorly.  I told myself it was okay to take a break, relax.  And it was, but not to the extent that I did.  We were eating out more.  I stopped getting up to exercise in the morning, and my beer consumption dramatically increased.  All this led to me being even lazier and gaining weight.  Ugh!  So, it’s time to make a change.  My husband and I have started to work on becoming more self-sufficient and less dependent on store bought goods.  We are really digging the DIY movement and working towards reducing waste, eating local, eating seasonal and producing as much of our own food as possible.  It’s a journey and a process, and one that I would like to share with others.  For these reasons I am starting this blog. I have been following other women who blog about what they are doing with their lives to accomplish similar goals, and it has inspired me.  Through this blog I hope to record our successes and failures as we learn to become more self-sufficient and less dependent on the grocery store.
Woo approved.
